Iori Yagami is the contact of the Orochi, the 8 headed Dragon. The Yagami family carry the blood of the dragon, and Iori contains the highest content of it. Though the Yagami's are natural masters of Geomancy, the Orochi blood brings them a greater well of power. Iori himself is at the will of blood. Yagami are sometimes known to become insanely enraged, in this state of "Blood Riot" they become remorseless killers, seeking the blood of their opponents as the only way to cool their own fiery blood. In Legacy: Iori is training himself in the Yagami style of martial art's from a book given to him by his family. He is attending the Dynasty Warlord Academy under orders from his family to find the strength to fight mystical powers. His family has not told him of his dangerous blood yet, nor how to use its powers. While not overly powerful or speedy, he is dangerous none the less. A student of Warlord Masamune, he is learning how to fight effectively with a sledgehammer as well other tenants of Masamune's instruction. Despite dark foreshadowing, Iori does his best to make friends, and not embarrass himself in front of Senior Ryu Clanmates.

The 8 headed Dragon known as The Orochi is the source of Iori's blood and power. Its power is so awesome that human bodies cannot contain it for long. Yagami clanspersons die in their prime because of this. When Yagami's reach a certain point of rage, their Orochi blood begins to boil. This "Riot of the Blood," can only be soothed by taking the blood of another. Yagami's remember nothing once their blood ha been soothed. As the 9th Dragon, Iori has the ability to draw out the inner fire and power of the Dragon. This skill is hard to control, and sometimes Iroi even burns himself. If Iroi does indeed free the Dragon, it will make claim for the world. But his future if he destroys the Orochi is uncertain.

Since the KOF '95 project began with the concept of introducing Iori as Kyo's rival, he became known as a character who was a member of a rival school of martial arts that had a connection to the Ancient Arts of the Kusanagi. He was also given the ability to use a different color of flames other than Kyo's (red flames), along with various other characteristics. When you think of Iori Yagami, his intense personality most likely comes to mind. His moves are unique, and his singular choice of hairstyle, wardrobe, and manner of speaking was certainly a personality that broke the mold for characters in fighting games at that time. During the initial location tests to determine the popularity of the game, Iori was the character who stood out most. His hair and his lines to provoke his opponents ("You think I'm scary, do you?") excited his fans to no end. What set him apart are his memorable lines: "You cry! You scream! Then you die!" "Think of me when you gaze at the moon." And a whole catalog of others too numerous to list here. He's a character with a long history that promises more excitement in the future.
